The John Shortt Legends Day at Punchestown racecourse on Thursday 19th October is gathering pace and interest a plenty with a hugely impressive collection of auction prizes and legend challenge riders alike.

The day itself is a celebration of the life of former jockey and great character John Shortt who sadly passed away, aged 53,  in February of this year. Before he died John had secured a plot of land and planning permission for a home for his wife and young daughter. The John Shortt Legends Day offers friends and the wider sporting and business communities an opportunity to assist in fulfilling their great friends dream.

Action gets underway on Thursday 19th October with the hugely anticipated Legends Challenge which will take place prior to racing over a one mile and six furlong track on the famous Punchestown course. The main criteria for the sixteen eager challengers is that they are all now retired or former jockeys with varying levels of fitness and confidence!   With a combined winners tally numbering in the thousands and multiple Derby, Grand National and Gold Cup wins to their names racing fans can look forward to seeing the likes of Michael Kinane, Charlie Swan, Arthur Moore, ATR and ITV presenter Luke Harvey, Norman Williamson, Graham Bradley and Punchestown  clerk of the course Brendan Sheridan returning to the saddle.

The John Shortt Legends Challenge will be followed by a now sold out Legends Lunch which will feature an auction boasting an extremely impressive line-up of items. It is very important to note that anyone can bid on the auction items regardless of whether they are in attendance on the day or not.
