Punchestown News: Douvan Stars Among Boylesports Entries for Punchestown This Sunday

Posted: 31st Jan 2017

Ireland’s highest rated chaser Douvan is set to be the star attraction at Punchestown this Sunday when he will look to extend his winning sequence to 13 consecutive races for trainer Willie Mullins in the BoyleSports Tied Cottage Chase.

The sensational seven-year-old is the current odds on favourite for the Queen Mother Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival and heads a field of six potential runners in Sunday’s feature race at Punchestown.

Willie Mullins said on Tuesday; “I have been happy with Douvan since Leopardstown and the Tied Cottage comes at a nice time for him. It’s a track that he has won at twice over hurdles and last season over fences as a novice so hopefully he runs well.”

Gordon Elliott has made two entries for the race with previous Grade One winners Clarcam and Realt Mor possibly representing him and the colours of Alan and Ann Potts that were carried to victory by Sizing Europe in the Tied Cottage Chase of 2012 and 2013 are likely to be on show again with Mouse Morris including Smashing in the €45,000 race.

Velvet Maker, who was second to Douvan on his penultimate start as a novice last season, and Draycott Place make up the field.

Willie Mullins has a strong hand in the opening INH Stallion Owners EBF Novice Hurdle with two-time winner Cilaos Emery his most fascinating inclusion for the listed event.

A strong field of 28 are entered for the racinguk.com Grand National Trial over 3m4f including the winner and runner-up from last year’s renewal, Bonny Kate and Baie Des Iles, while recent Conyngham Cup winner Canaly may go in search of more success at Punchestown. Cheltenham Festival winner Mall Dini is also entered.

The Punchestown going at time of entry was:  Soft. 20mm rainfall overnight. Mainly dry tomorrow, rain on Thursday, heavy at times. Using inside track first circuit on hurdle course finishing on main straight.

The Boylesports Tied Cottage Chase takes place Sunday 5th February at Punchestown with action getting underway at 1.30. Admission is €15 or €10 for seniors and students. All children under 14 race for free and there will be complimentary entertainment in the Junior Jockey Fun Club.
