SPRINTER SACRE is such a winter horse that even on his summer holidays he loves nothing better than getting covered in mud on a rainy day.
The Nicky Henderson-trained superstar, who returned to his brilliant best last season winning four from four – including the Grade 1 Champion and Celebration Chases, is currently on his summer holidays at Juliet and David Minton’s Mill House Stud and is reported to be in rude health.
The ten-year-old, who came to Minton as part of a job lot at two, was broken at the stud and has returned every year since joining Henderson.
Minton said: “As you can see by the way he gallops around that paddock, he’s full of life.
“He’s just turned out in the field eating grass for most of the day and he loves digging mud holes when it’s wet. He loves nothing better than getting himself covered in mud!
“He’s turned out with a nice four-year-old Nicky thinks a lot of called Jenkins, and the two of then are the greatest of mates. Everything looks good at the moment.”
Sprinter Sacre: reported to be in 'rare form'PICTURE: Edward Whitaker (racingpost.com/photos)
Sprinter Sacre will return to Henderson’s yard in a month’s time and Minton said a decision would be made on what happens next once he was back in work.
He added: “He’s been back with us every summer since we bought him and it’s exactly what he’s done for the last seven seasons, so he knows the place and exactly what he’s going to get up to.
“He’s in rare form, which is good, and he had just the most marvellous season. He goes back to Nicky’s at the end of July and he’ll tell us what he wants to do.”
