Felix cut for Champion Chase after Cottage win

Report: Punchestown, Sunday

FELIX YONGER showcased his Queen Mother Champion Chase credentials, holding off Flemenstar to land the Tied Cottage Chase under a patient ride from Ruby Walsh.

After being held up for most of the race, Walsh eased his mount into contention approaching the last and despite being outjumped by a resurgent Flemenstar, stayed on well to record his third win of the season as the even-money favourite with Mozoltov in third.

Paddy Power cut the Willie Mullins-trained ten-year-old to 14-1 (from 20) for the Champion Chase a race confirmed as his next port of call by Walsh.

"He did it well," said the jockey. "He travelled nicely and he surprised me with the turn of foot he showed approaching the last and he has just idled a little in front but it was a good performance. The Champion Chase would be the obvious target."

The statistics are against Felix Yonger triumphing in the race. He has yet to score in two visits to Cheltenham, second behind Simonsig in the Neptune in 2012 and fourth behind Taquin Du Seuil in the JLT in 2014, and would be the oldest winner of the race since Moscow Flyer in 2003.
